Just Confirmed - Plenary - Roberto Suro, University of Southern California

Roberto Suro is a professor of journalism at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and a noted researcher and commentator on the Hispanic population and immigration matters. In addition to his appointment at USC, Suro is affiliated with the Institution and the Migration Policy Institute.

Prior to moving to Los Angeles in August 2007, Suro had served as director of the Pew Hispanic Center, a Washington-based research organization which he founded in 2001 with support from the Pew Charitable Trusts. At the Center Suro supervised the production of more than 100 publications that offered non-partisan information on the rapid growth of the Latino population and its implications for the nation as a whole.

A former journalist, Suro has more than 30 years of experience writing on Hispanic issues and immigration. He is author of Strangers Among Us: Latino Lives in a Changing America, (Vintage) as well as numerous reports, articles and other publications regarding the growth of the Latino population. During his career in journalism Suro worked for TIME Magazine, The New York Times, The Washington Post and other publications. He worked extensively in Washington, did tours as a domestic correspondent in Chicago and Houston and was posted as a foreign correspondent in Latin America, Europe and the Middle East.

When: October 16-17, 2007. The training will begin at approximately 8:00am on October 16th and end around 4:30pm. CAMEO's Annual Members' Meeting will be held after the training on October 16th followed with a small fiesta including a live band. The training will begin again at 8:00am on October 17th and conclude around 2:00pm.

Where: This event will be held at the Town and Country Resort and Convention Center. CAMEO has a set of rooms blocked for training participants at a reduced price of $110 for single or double occupancy on Monday-Wednesday nights. CAMEO's Annual Members' Meeting and Salsa Reception: This year, the CAMEO Annual Members' Meeting will be held Wednesday, October 16th at 5pm. There is no charge for this meeting.
