After depending on public assistance for
nearly fourteen years, Shoshana Frumkin has achieved success
as an entrepreneur, transitioning from welfare to On the Spot
Massage at Work, her massage and nutritional counseling business.
Shoshana graduated from Women's Initiative for Self-Employment's
Managing Your Small Business course in May 2000, and with
the help of a Women's Initiative counselor, developed a welfare-to-work
self-employment plan. This plan allowed her to continue receiving
TANF benefits while studying massage and nutrition, developing
a business plan, and formalizing her business. Today, she
no longer receives any public assistance.
With Women's Initiative's help, Shoshana improved her skills
in communication and parenting, and her self-confidence increased.
She is now a certified nutritional consultant, and supports
her family primarily with self-employment income, relishing
her economic independence. |
