Online Practitioner Workshop
Entrepreneur Training for Immigrants:
An ESL Approach
October 6, 2005, 10:00am—11:30am PDT

Sponsored by Spnsored by Citibank

Teaching entrepreneurs business English as you teach them how to operate a business accelerates their access to larger markets and reduces their time spent in separate ESL classes. This VESL (Vocational English as a Second Language) based approach to Microenterprise Training motivates the entrepreneur with practical applications of English skills such as talking to customers, networking and working with vendors. A VESL microenterprise program is also a highly efficient way for a microenterprise program to serve a number of entrepreneurs from different origins. Farhana Huq, founder of CEO Women, shares her experience developing a VESL microenterprise program. CEO Women was recently awarded AEO's 2005 Innovation Award for their VESL Microenterprise Development Approach.

The workshop will cover:

  • Working with ESL trainers
  • Developing an engaging training materials
  • Securing partners to bring the program to scale
