The grassroots advocacy movement for microenterprise starts
with you. CAMEO needs your action to ensure support
for microenterprise development from federal and state legislators.
Federal Issues
Federal funding for microenterprise is in jeopardy as, this year,
the President's budget proposes the elimination of the SBA Microloan
Program, the single largest source of funding for the microenterprise
industry in the United States! Also zeroed out is the PRIME program
(Program for Investments in Microentrepreneurs). In Federal Fiscal
Year 2004 the actual funding levels for these programs were $40
million.

State Funding for California Microenterprise Development
California does not provide funding for microenterprise development
from its general fund. However there are a number of state government

for special populations.

Advocacy & Public Education Resources
Responding to recommendations from a recent survey of the field
in California, CAMEO has assembled a suite of resources to help
raise public awareness of what microenterprise development is and
why it should be an important part of every California community.
California microenterprise development programs can use these resources
to bolster their public relations and advocacy strategies.
