The success of Microenterprise Development
Month (October 2005) has helped build wide support for
Microenterprise Development in California. Thank you
to everyone who participated in celebrations, events, and activities
in honor of Microenterprise Development Month.
Building on relationships that developed as a
result of Microenterpise Development Month, CAMEO has been working
with the California legislature to deepen the support of your work
in the following ways:
On April 26, 2006, the Rural Caucus and Select Committee on Rural Economic Development will hold a legislative hearing in Sacramento
on rural microenterprise development. CAMEO was asked to put together the agenda and list of our own speakers. This is an exciting opportunity to educate our legislators and the governor about the needs and concerns of rural microenterprise development. Please join us in Sacramento on April 26!
Legislative proposals are currently being
developed to increase funding and support for microenterprise
development, on a federal and state level. Stay tuned for more
information.
To ensure that there is wide support for these
proposals, we urge you to contact your legislators, community
leaders, mayors, faith-based leaders, supervisors, etc., and tell
them about the importance of microenterprise development in your
community.
To keep up-to-date on these efforts, sign up for
CAMEO's advocacy circle. You will receive regular updates throughout
the legislative session on the progress of our proposals. We will
also inform you of upcoming legislative and media events that you
can participate in. Email Heather at hgray@microbiz.org
if you would like to sign up.
